2021 Silver Sets

The 2021 Silver Sets will be released by the US Mint that year to contain proof quality examples of the circulating coins produced in 2021. Some of those coins in the 2021 Silver Sets will also be struck from 90% silver instead of their standard clad composition

These silver coins give the 2021 silver sets an intrinsic melt value in addition to their face and numismatic values. However, most will not obtain the sets for their melt values, but instead purchase them for the numismatic value and prize them in their collections for such. However, some will justify the premiums charged for the 2021 Silver Sets by noting that they will always at least be worth the silver included in them, even if collectors in the future are no longer interested in them.

Of note, 2021 may mark the end of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program which the US Mint debuted in 2010 and which will also be represented in these silver proof sets. As such, only one new coin may appear as part of the 2021 America the Beautiful Quarters unless the program is extended by the Treasury Secretary who was given that option in the original authorizing legislation. Also possible, Congress may opt to pass new legislation either forcing a continuation of the series or replacing it with a new one.

2021 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set

The 2021 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set may actually not be issued by the US Mint unless the series is extended, as noted above. If it is not extended, only only coin is scheduled to appear that year as part of the series. If the program is extended, however, the first four coins of the continued series will also appear in 2021 making this a complete five-coin set like previous issues.

The 2021 Quarters Silver Proof Set is currently only scheduled to include on coin:

  • 2021-S Tuskegee Quarter representing Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site of Alabama

This one quarter will contain approximately 0.18 ounces of silver. If four additional quarters are also included in the set, its total silver weight should be 0.904 ounces.

2021 Silver Proof Set

The 2021 United States Mint Silver Proof Set™ may actually only contain six coins. This is a significant departure from previous sets like the 2020 Silver Set which is scheduled for ten coins or the 2015 Silver Set which is listed for fourteen strikes.

This change is owed to two circulating coin programs which either ended previous to 2021, or scheduled to end that year including the Presidential $1 Coins and the America the Beautiful Quarters. As mentioned before, the original quarter series contains only one 2021 quarter unless the program is extended.

The 2021 Silver Proof Set should include, at a minimum, the following six coins:

  • 2021-S Lincoln Cent
  • 2021-S Jefferson Nickel
  • 2021-S Roosevelt Dime
  • 2021-S Tuskegee Quarter
  • 2021-S Kennedy Half Dollar
  • 2021-S Native American $1 Coin

If the Mint follows previous established procedure, the dime, the quarter(s) and the half dollar should all be struck from 90% silver. The remaining strikes will be struck from their standard clad composition.
