2014 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins

The 2014 America the Beautiful Silver Uncirculated Coins will be struck by the US Mint as the collector versions of the 2014 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins®. These strikes mark the fifth year for the silver uncirculated coin series with each coin struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches and featuring reverse designs emblematic of sites of national interest from around the United States and its territories.

Those size and design specifications are the same as the related bullion series, but there are three important aspects making the uncirculated coins different. First, the coins are struck by the US Mint for collectors whereas the bullion coins are intended for investors. Second, and based on their intended market, the collector grade coins feature an uncirculated finish which typically has more detail than will be found on the associated bullion strike.

Finally, the mintages should be extremely different for these two series of coins with the bullion mintage likely to be on top. Their sales should be helped by the fact that the bullion strikes will be sold to the public for only a small premium above the current spot price of the five ounces of silver contained within each strike. This differs from the 2014 America the Beautiful Silver Uncirculated Coins which will likely have a significant premium placed on them when they are first sold by the Mint.

The US Mint is producing the silver uncirculated coins under the authority granted the Treasury Secretary in 31 U.S.C. §5111(a) (3). The related bullion coins were authorized directly by Congress in Public Law 110-456 (America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008) which also authorized the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program
