Ozark Silver Bullion Coins

The 2017 Ozark Silver Bullion Coins will feature a reverse design emblematic of Ozark National Scenic Riverways of Missouri. Each coin will be struck as part of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program and will be composed of five ounces of .999 fine silver with a massive diameter of three inches.

This extremely large size qualifies the strikes of the series as the largest bullion products produced by the US Mint. They dwarf the staple bullion US Mint coins known as the American Eagles in both weight and size. For example, the Silver Eagle is only struck from one ounce of silver and only has a diameter of 1.598 inches.

The distinctive size of these America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins was dictated by the legislation which authorized them – America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008. This act became law on December 23, 2008 when it was signed by then President of the United States George W. Bush.

Congress intended these bullion coins for investors, however, many collectors have also shown interest in the series. Acknowledging that, the US Mint will also produce a Ozark Silver Uncirculated Coin with basically the same specifications as the bullion strikes, but these coins will be intended for collectors.

2017 Ozark Silver Coin Values

Each 2017 Ozark Silver Bullion Coin feature a legal tender face value of twenty-five cents. This is the amount the coin would be good for in an everyday commerce transaction if it were to be used for such and is taken from the quarter dollar it is struck to resemble.

That amount is relatively minor, however, compared to the coins intrinsic melt value. The melt value is based on the fact that each is struck from five ounces of silver and thus would be worth approximately that amount of the precious metal on the open market. Thus, if silver is currently trading for $25 an ounce, these coins would have a melt value of about $125 – five ounces times $25 an ounce equals $125.

Also, since collectors may be interested in obtaining the coins, there may be a numismatic value associated with them. This numismatic value generally carries a premium over and above the melt value and increases based on the the condition and rarity of the strike.

The Mint Prices, Values & Sales Figures Page will offer current melt value information based on recent market activity along with up-to-date sales information on the strikes.
