National Park Silver Bullion Coins

The 2020 National Park Silver Bullion Coins will be released by the US Mint as the first strikes that year in the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program. Each coin will be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches and feature a reverse emblematic of the National Park of American Samoa.

With five ounces of precious metal and a diameter of three inches, this series of strikes qualify as the largest bullion products of the US Mint. They clearly outsize the Silver American Eagles which have been the main bullion Mint product since 1986 but are only struck from one ounce of silver to a diameter of 1.598 inches.

Congress intended these strikes to be large, and in fact, stipulated both their weight and diameter in the legislation which authorized them – Public Law 110-456. The diameter proved to be a problem initially for the Mint which led Congress to adjust the 3-inch requirement, but by that time the Mint had overcome its difficulties and opted to remain on the 3-inch standard.

Each of these bullion coins are struck for investors by the US Mint. However, knowing that collectors will also likely be interested in purchasing them a National Park Silver Uncirculated Coin will also be produced.

2020 National Park Silver Coin Values

Each 2020 National Park Silver Bullion Coin will be struck with only a face value of twenty-five cents because they take their designs from the associated America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. However, since the coins are composed of five ounces of silver, they will also have a much larger melt value.

That melt value will be approximately equal to what five ounces of the precious metal is currently trading for. So, if it is trading for $25 an ounce, these coins will have a melt value of about $125 – five ounces times $25 an ounce equals $125.

Finally, collectors will likely be interested in obtaining the strikes to add to their collection giving them a numismatic value. This value generally carries a premium over and above the melt value. That premium will likely be much higher if the coin in question has been slabbed and graded highly by an independent third-party grading service.

The Coin Values Page will offer recent sales and melt value information once the coins have been issued by the US Mint.

National Park Silver Bullion Coin Information

Struck to resemble the quarter dollar series, the obverse of each of the 2020 National Park Silver Bullion Coins will contain a portrait of George Washington. This image of the first President of the United States was initially designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.

Shown on the reverse of the strike will be a design emblematic the National Park of American Samoa. Design candidates should appear early in 2019 with the final design unveiled later that year.
