Appearing as the second of five 2015-dated strikes in the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin® Program will be the 2015 Kisatchie Silver Bullion Coins. The United States Mint produces these silver bullion coins from five ounces of .999 fine silver with reverse designs emblematic of selected sites of national interest with this specific coin honoring Kisatchie National Forest found in the state of Louisiana.
The coins actually are based on the designs found on the related America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, also from the US Mint. In total , the US Mint will produce a total of fifty-six of these silver bullion coins as well as the related quarters with one strike in each series honoring a site from each state as well as the District of Columbia and the five US territories.
Both programs will see five strikes released per year with the debut occurring back in 2010. The final strikes will be issued in 2021.
A third series of coins will also feature the same designs as found on this silver bullion coin series and the quarter dollars. It is known as the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin Program and features basically the same specifications as these bullion strikes, but are intended for collectors. This differs from the bullion coins which are produced for investors. For more information, see Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coins.
2015 Kisatchie Silver Coin Values
The 2015 Kisatchie Silver Bullion Coins only feature a face value of twenty-five cents as they are based on the related Kisatchie America the Beautiful Quarter. However, that face value is small in comparison to other values that may be associated with the strike.
The first of which is the melt value of the bullion coins. Since each are struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver, their melt value is approximately equal to that amount of the precious metal on the open market.
Secondly, some collectors may want to purchase these coins for their collections. If so, the coin will also have a numismatic value associated with it which generally increases based on the condition of the strike as well as its perceived rarity.
Kisatchie Silver Bullion Coin Information
Since these silver bullion coins are based on the related quarters, their obverse will contain the same portrait of George Washington as seen on those quarter dollars. This portrait was originally designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and has been in use on the quarters ever since.
The reverse of these silver bullion coins will contain a design emblematic of Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana. The US Mint will release design candidates for the coin early in 2014 with the final design unveiled later that year.
