Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coins

Struck as the second 2015-dated strike of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program will be the 2015 Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coin. Each of these coins will be composed of five ounces of .999 fine silver like other coins in the series with this specific coin featuring a reverse emblematic of Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana.

That same reverse design will also be found on the Kisatchie America the Beautiful Quarter, also issued by the US Mint. However, where most of the Kisatchie Quarters will be struck for circulation, the Mint will produce these uncirculated coins solely for numismatic purposes.

As such, each will initially be sold directly to the public by the Mint. Their release price is not yet known, but it will include a significant premium over and above the cost of the five ounces of precious metal contained in each one, as is standard practice for collector grade coins issued by the Mint.

Those interested in this uncirculated coin but looking to pay less may want to consider obtaining a Kisatchie Silver Bullion Coin. These bullion coins will contain the same basic design and specifications as the uncirculated strike, but are intended for investors and thus are sold through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers for a much lower premium above the current spot price of the silver contained within them.

2015 Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coin Values

When issued, the 2015 Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coin will only have a face value of twenty five cents as it is based on the associated America the Beautiful Quarter. That face value is significantly lower than the coin’s melt value however which will approximately be equal to five ounces of silver on the open market.

Topping both of those values should be the strikes numismatic value. This is the amount that the coin is worth to collectors and generally increases based on the perceived rarity and condition of the coin. A strike thought to be rare and one with relatively few scratches or other marks is typically worth much more than a coin not meeting those standards.

Up-to-date pricing and melt values can be seen for the coin on the Coin Values Page once it has been released by the US Mint.

Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coin Information

The obverse of all of the America the Beautiful related coins shows a portrait of the first President of the United States as originally designed by John Flanagan. This image of George Washington was first seen on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and has been used on the quarters ever since.

The reverse of the 2015 Kisatchie Silver Uncirculated Coin will showcase a design honoring Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana. This design should be unveiled by the Mint late in 2014 with design candidates appearing earlier that year for review by the appropriate individuals and groups.
