The 2015 Saratoga Silver Bullion Coins will mark the last of five 2015-dated strikes in the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin® Program. These coins are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver with reverse designs emblematic of sites of national interest from around the United States with this specific coin honoring Saratoga National Historical Park found in the state of New York.
A total of fifty-six coins will be created by the US Mint in this series with the first strikes appearing in 2010. The coins will appear at a rate of five per year until the final one is issued in 2021.
Each of these coins are struck for investors and will be sold through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers. These APs purchase the coins in bulk from the Mint, then resells them to local coin and precious metal dealers for a small premium above the current spot price of the precious metal contained within them.
Collectors may also be interested in obtaining the bullion coins despite their intended market of investors. However, the US Mint also produces a series of numismatic strikes which feature basically the same specifications as the bullion coins. For more information see the related Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coins.
2015 Saratoga Silver Coin Values
There are three values which may be associated with these Saratoga Silver Bullion Coins – face, melt and numismatic. The coin’s face value will only be twenty-five cents as they are based on the related America the Beautiful Quarters®.
Each coin will also have a melt value which is tied to the fact that each is struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver. As such, each will be worth approximately that amount of the precious metal on the open market.
Finally, as mentioned before, collectors may be interested in purchasing the coins. If so, then they would also have a numismatic value associated with them. This is the amount a collector would be willing to pay in order to add the coin to his collection. A coin’s numismatic value typically increases based on the perceived rarity of the strike as well as its condition.
Saratoga Silver Bullion Coin Information
Since these coins are based on the related quarter dollars, their obverse will showcase a portrait of the first President of the United States, George Washington. This image of Washington was first seen on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and was designed by John Flanagan.
The reverse will contain a design emblematic of Saratoga National Historical Park of New York. The US Mint should offer design candidates for the strike sometime in early 2014 with the final design unveiled later that year.
