Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coins

The 2015 Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coins will each be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches like all of the strikes of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program. This series of uncirculated coins features reverse designs emblematic of selected sites of national interest with this specific coin honoring Saratoga National Historical Park of New York.

The coins take their design from the Saratoga Quarter struck as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. As such, the obverse will contain a portrait of George Washington who has been featured on the obverse of the quarter dollars since 1932.

However, when it comes to specifications, these uncirculated coins will be more similar to the coins struck as part of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. These bullion coins also take their designs from the associated quarter dollars but are struck from five ounces of precious metal like the uncirculated coins.

In fact, the two precious metal series will be extremely similar with their finish and a mintmark being the main discernable differences between the two. The uncirculated coins will be struck with more pressure typically resulting in a more detailed finish and will include a ‘P’ mintmark indicating they were struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. The bullion coins will not contain a mintmark and will only have a bullion quality strike.

2015 Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coin Values

The 2015 Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coins will each feature a face value of only twenty-five cents taken from the quarter dollars they are struck to resemble. That face value will be dwarfed, however, by the coins melt and numismatic values.

The melt values of the uncirculated coins will be approximately equal to what five ounces of silver are currently trading for on the open market. Thus, if it currently trading for $25 an ounce, these coins will have an approximate melt value of $125 – five ounces times $25 an ounce equals $125.

These coins will also feature a numismatic value which will likely be the highest value associated with the strikes. This is the amount a collector would be willing to pay to obtain the coins and generally increases based on the coins rarity and condition.

Sales information and melt values will be shown on the Coin Values Page once the uncirculated strikes are offered for sale by the Mint.

Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coin Information

As previously mentioned, the obverse of each America the Beautiful related coin will contain a portrait of George Washington. This image of the first President of the United States was originally designed by John Flanagan and has been seen on the associated quarter dollars since 1932.

The reverse of the 2015 Saratoga Silver Uncirculated Coins will contain a design showcasing a portion of Saratoga National Historical Park found in the state of New York. Design candidates for the reverse should be offered by the Mint in early 2014 for review by the appropriate groups and individuals. Then, the Treasury Secretary will make the final selection which should be announced later in 2014.
