The third of five strikes in the year of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program will be the 2020 Salt River Bay Silver Uncirculated Coins. Shown on the reverse of these strikes will be a design emblematic of Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve in the US Virgin Islands.
Each of these silver uncirculated coins will be composed five ounces of .999 fine silver like the Salt River Bay Silver Bullion Coins that they are struck to resemble. Both also feature a diameter of three inches as well as edge inscriptions indicating their weight and fineness.
However, making the strikes different from each-other are their intended markets as well as their finish. The bullion strikes are intended for investors and thus only have a bullion finish. This differs from the uncirculated coins which are intended for collectors and thus have a finish typically much higher in detail than will be found on the bullion coins.
Finally, a mintmark will be seen on each of these America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coins indicating they were struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. No mintmark will be found on the investment grade coins.
2020 Salt River Bay Silver Uncirculated Coin Values
Like the associated bullion strikes, these 2020 Salt River Bay Silver Uncirculated Coins will be struck to resemble the Salt River Bay Quarter. As such, they will also only have a face value of twenty-five cents like those quarter dollars.
Improving on that face value will be the strikes intrinsic melt value since each is composed of five ounces of silver giving them a melt value approximately equal to what five ounces of the precious metal is currently trading for. So, if it is trading for $25 an ounce, these coins will have a melt value of about $125 – five ounces times $25 an ounce equals $125.
The best value for the strikes, however, may be their numismatic value. This is the amount a collector would be willing to pay to obtain the coin which generally increases based on the condition and rarity of the strike.
Once issued, the Mint Prices, Values & Sales Figures page will offer up-to-date sales data and melt value information for the coins.
Salt River Bay Silver Uncirculated Coin Information
Since these 2020 Salt River Bay Silver Uncirculated Coins are struck to resemble the associated quarter dollar, they will also feature an obverse portrait of George Washington like those quarter dollars do. In fact, this portrait will be seen on all of the America the Beautiful related coins and was first used on the 1932 circulating quarter dollars.
Shown on the reverse of the coin will be a design emblematic of the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve found in the US Virgin Islands. A final design should be unveiled by the US Mint in late 2019.
