Salt River Bay Silver Bullion Coins

The 2020 Salt River Bay Silver Bullion Coins will each honor the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve of the US Virgin Islands with a design on its reverse. Each of these silver bullion coins will mark the third of five strikes to be released that year as part of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program which are struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches.

A total of fifty-six of the silver bullion coins will be released by the US Mint before the original program is completed in 2021. The series debuted in 2010 and was scheduled for five annual releases with one strike from the series honoring a different site of national interest.

One site was selected from each state as well as the District of Columbia and the five US territories. The release order of the coins was dictated by the order in which the honored sites came under the direct control of the federal government.

Each of these silver bullion coins is produced by the US Mint for investors. However, knowing that collectors will also be interested in the strikes, the US Mint will also produce a Salt River Bay Silver Uncirculated Coin.

2020 Salt River Bay Silver Coin Values

The 2020 Salt River Bay Silver Bullion Coins will have a face value of twenty-five cents. This face value is taken from an associated quarter dollar the coins are struck to resemble from the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

However, that face value is small compared to the strikes melt value. Since each of the coins are struck from five ounces of silver, they will have a melt value approximately equal to what that amount of the precious metal is currently trading for. Thus, if it is going for $20 an ounce, these coins would have a melt value of about $100 – five ounces times $20 an ounces equals $100.

Finally, as mentioned before, collectors may interested in the coins which would give them a numismatic value. Typically, this numismatic value carries a premium over and above the melt value. It also typically increases based on the condition and rarity of the strike.

Current melt value information along with recent sales data can be found on the Coin Values Page once the strikes have been issued by the US Mint.

Salt River Bay Silver Bullion Coin Information

The 2020 Salt River Bay Silver Bullion Coins will each have a portrait of George Washington on their obverse. This image will actually be found on all of the America the Beautiful related strikes and was originally designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.

The reverse of the coin will contain a design emblematic of Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve of the US Virgin Islands. Several design candidates should be released by the US Mint in early 2019 for review by the appropriate parties before a final design is unveiled later that year.
