Theodore Roosevelt Silver Bullion Coins

The 2016 Theodore Roosevelt Silver Bullion Coins will each be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver and honor Theodore Roosevelt National Park of North Dakota on their reverse. These silver bullion strikes will be issued as part of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin® Program which debuted in 2010 and will see a total of fifty-six strikes created as part of it before it is completed in 2021.

This series itself is based on the National Park Quarters, also issued by the US Mint. Both the bullion coins and the quarter dollars were authorized by Congress with the passage of Public Law 110-456 (America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008). In the Act, Congress required the reverse designs of both series to be emblematic of sites of national interest from around the United States and its territories.

Thus, one site was chosen from each state as well as one from the District of Columbia and one from each of the five US Territories. This totals fifty-six locations which will be honored in each program with this Theodore Roosevelt Silver Bullion Coin marking the thirty-fourth to appear in that series. A total of five were scheduled annually from the debut year of 2010 until the final strike is released in 2021.

These bullion coins are struck by the US Mint for investors, however, many collectors will likely also be interested in the strikes. With that in mind, the US Mint will also produce a Theodore Roosevelt Silver Uncirculated Coin struck with similar specifications but created solely for numismatic purposes.

2016 Theodore Roosevelt Silver Coin Values

These 2016 Theodore Roosevelt Silver Bullion Coins will only have a face value of twenty five cents taken from the quarter dollars which share the same designs. However, that face value should be minor compared to two other values associated with each bullion strike – melt and numismatic.

Since each of these are composed of five ounces of silver, they will have a melt value approximately equal to that amount of the precious metal on the open market. Thus, if it is trading for $25 an ounce, these coins would have a melt value of approximately $125 – five ounces times $25 an ounce equals $125.

Finally, as collectors will also take an interest in these strikes, they should have a numismatic value associated with them. This value generally increases based on the condition and rarity of the coin which typically results in a collector willing to pay more to obtain the strike.

The Mint Prices, Values & Sales Figures Page will offer up-to-date sales and melt value information once the coins are released.

Theodore Roosevelt Silver Bullion Coin Information

Each 2016 Theodore Roosevelt Silver Bullion Coin will contain a portrait of George Washington on its obverse, just like all of the other America the Beautiful related coins. This image of the first President of the United States was originally designed by John Flanagan and initially appeared on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.

The reverse of the strike will be emblematic of Theodore Roosevelt National Park found in the state of North Dakota. A final design should be unveiled by the US Mint in late 2015 with several design candidates being offered for review earlier that year.
