Tallgrass Prairie Silver Bullion Coins

Honoring the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve of Kansas will be the 2020 Tallgrass Prairie Silver Bullion Coins. These strikes will be the last of five to appear that year as part of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program and will be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches like all of the other silver bullion coins in the series.

Strikes in the silver bullion coins program each feature a reverse design emblematic of the site being honored with a total of fifty-six different sites being represented in the program overall. One site was selected from each state as well as the District of Columbia and the five US Territories for a total of fifty-six to be honored in the series which debuted in 2010 and will run until 2021.

If that design criteria sounds somewhat familiar, it may. That is because it is also used for an associated program of quarter dollars known as the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. In fact, the designs found on these silver bullion coins are actually taken from those quarter dollars.

The United States Mint will strike these bullion coins for investors as a means for them to add small amounts of silver to their portfolios. However, in knowing that collectors will also likely be interested in obtaining the strikes, the US Mint will also produce a numismatic version known as the Tallgrass Prairie Silver Uncirculated Coin.

2020 Tallgrass Prairie Silver Coin Values

As mentioned before, these 2020 Tallgrass Prairie Silver Bullion Coins are struck to resemble the America the Beautiful Quarters. As such, they will also only have a face value of twenty-five cents like those quarter dollars do.

That face value is small, however, compared to the strikes intrinsic melt value. The melt value is based on the fact that each is struck from five ounces of silver giving them a melt value approximately equal to what that amount of the precious metal would currently be trading for on the open market.

A numismatic value may also be linked to the coins if collectors are interested in obtaining them. This numismatic value generally carries a premium above the melt value of the strike which improves based on the condition and rarity of the strike.

The Mint Prices, Values & Sales Figures page will offer recent sales data on the strikes along with melt value information.

Tallgrass Prairie Silver Bullion Coin Information

The 2020 Tallgrass Prairie Silver Bullion Coins will each contain a portrait of George Washington on their obverse. This image of the first President of the United States is actually found on the obverse of all of the America the Beautiful related coin and was designed by John Flanagan.

Shown on the reverse of the strike will be the design showcasing a portion of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve found in the state of Kansas. Several design candidates for the strike should be released for review in early 2019 with the final design unveiled later that year.
