The 2015 Blue Ridge Silver Bullion Coins will be the twenty-eighth release of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin® Program. Coins in this series are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver and feature reverse designs emblematic of sites of national interest with this specific coin honoring Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina.
A total of fifty-six strikes in the bullion coin series is scheduled to be issued by the US Mint from its debut year of 2010 until the final strike is released in 2021. The coins will appear at a rate of five per year with the Blue Ridge Parkway Silver Bullion Coin marking the third to be issued in 2015.
These strikes are produced for investors as a low-cost means of adding silver to their portfolios. Additionally, as a bullion product of the US Mint, the coins weight and purity is guaranteed by the United States government.
While many collectors may also be interested in obtaining the 2015 Blue Ridge Parkway Silver Bullion Coins, the US Mint also strikes a collector-grade series of the coins known as the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin Program. For more information on these coins, see the related Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coins.
2015 Blue Ridge Silver Coin Values
This series of bullion coins actually takes their designs from a series of related quarter dollars known as the America the Beautiful Quarters. As such, the Blue Ridge bullion coin actually only has a face value of twenty-five cents like the Blue Ridge Quarter.
That face value is small compared to the coins melt value, however. Since each is struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver, the coin has an intrinsic melt value worth approximately that amount of the precious metal on the open market.
Finally, there may be collectors who are interested in purchasing the coin for their collections. This would give the coin a numismatic value which would typically increase based on the condition of the coin as well as its perceived rarity.
Blue Ridge Silver Bullion Coin Information
Since the bullion coins are based on the related quarter dollars, their obverse will contain a portrait of George Washington just like the quarters. This portrait of the first President of the United States initially appeared on the quarter dollars in 1932 and was designed by John Flanagan.
The reverse will contain a design emblematic of Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina. The US Mint typically will release design candidates for the coin early in the previous year with the final design unveiled later that year.
