2018 Silver Proof Set

The 2018 United States Mint Silver Proof Set™ should contain a total of seven 90% silver coins along with at least three other proof coins struck from a clad composition. This is assuming that both Congress and the United States Mint do nothing to change the silver proof set or the coins that would be included as part of it.

Likely coins in the 2018 Silver Proof Set include the Lincoln Cent, the Jefferson Nickel and the Native American $1 Coin. These three strikes will likely be the three clad coins of the set. Also included should be these seven coins struck from 90% silver – Roosevelt Dime, Kennedy Half Dollar and the five 2018 America the Beautiful Quarters®.

It is possible, however, that changes could be made to this set including additional series that might be authorized by Congress, or changes to existing circulating coins. Also, the Mint could opt to not create such a set, or alter the coins included in it, or which coins are struck from the silver composition.

If the seven silver coins previously mentioned above are struck, and feature the same specifications seen in previous releases, this complete 2018 Silver Proof Set should contain a total of 1.34 ounces of the precious metal.

As it stands now, however, the coins included as part of the 2018 Silver Proof Set will be:

2018 Pictured Rocks Quarter

This strike honors Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore of Michigan and is scheduled to be the first 2018 release of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The reverse design will be emblematic of Pictured Rocks which was established by Congress on October 15, 1966.

2018 Apostle Islands Quarter

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, of which this coin is emblematic of, is found along the Lake Superior shoreline in the state of Wisconsin. The lakeshore is made up of 21 islands and was officially established on September 26, 1970.

2018 Voyageurs Quarter

This third strike of the 2018 quarter series is emblematic of Voyageurs National Park found in the state of Minnesota. This park is unique in the national park system in that it is only fully accessible by boat. Voyageurs was established on April 8, 1975.

2018 Cumberland Island Quarter

The Cumberland Island Quarter is emblematic of Cumberland Island National Seashore found in the state of Georgia. It is located on the largest of the state’s Golden Isles and was established on October 23, 1972.

2018 Block Island Quarter

This quarter represents Block Island National Wildlife Refuge 12 miles off the Atlantic Coast of Rhode Island. The refuge was established in 1973 and is a stop-over for 70-plus species of migratory songbirds each fall.

Kennedy Half Dollar

If left unchanged, the obverse of this coin contains a portrait of John F. Kennedy by Gilroy Roberts. The reverse will have the Seal of the President of the United States based on a design by Frank Gasparro.

Roosevelt Dime

Assuming the dime remains unchanged (much as it has been since the 1940’s), the obverse will contain John R. Sinnock’s portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The reverse was also designed by Sinnock and shows an olive branch, torch and oak branch.

Lincoln Cent

A portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, by Victor David Brenner will be found on the obverse of the cent coin. The reverse shows a Union Shield design by Lyndall Bass that first appeared in 2010.

Jefferson Nickel

Thomas Jefferson is featured on the obverse of this coin as designed by Jamie Franki. The reverse shows Monticello, Jefferson’s home, as designed by Felix Schlag.

Native American $1 Coin

The Shoshone woman Sacagawea will likely be featured on the obverse of this coin, as she has been on the dollar coin since 2000. She served as guide for the Lewis and Clark Expedition which ran from 1804-1806. The reverse of the coin should feature a design showcasing an important contribution that was made by Native Americans to the history of the United States.
