The 2015 United States Mint Silver Proof Set™ should contain a total of fourteen strikes, seven of which are 90% silver coins, when released by the US Mint.
Included in those seven precious metal strikes of this 2015 Silver Proof Set are the five 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters®, the Kennedy Half Dollar and the Roosevelt Dime. They will be joined in the set by clad Presidential $1 Coins, a Native American $1 Coin, a Jefferson Nickel and a Lincoln Cent.
All fourteen of the coins will be struck to proof quality at the US Mint’s facility in San Francisco. The Mint describes proof coins as strikes with "brilliant backgrounds, with frosted, sculpted foregrounds. Proof coins receive the highest quality strike possible and can be distinguished by their sharpness of detail and brilliant, mirror-like surface." The Mint then places these coins in protective lenses to protect their finish.
The following fourteen quarters will be included in the 2015 Silver Proof Set:
Homestead National Monument of America Quarter
Struck from 90% silver, the Homestead National Monument of America Quarter will contain a reverse design emblematic of the site in Nebraska. The obverse of the coin will contain the standard design of a portrait of George Washington, by John Flanagan, seen on the obverse of all of the America the Beautiful coins.
Kisatchie National Forest Quarter
Aside from the standard obverse contain a portrait of the first President of the United States, the reverse of this precious metal coin will contain an image emblematic of Kisatchie National Forest found in the state of Louisiana.
Blue Ridge Parkway Quarter
Struck from 90% silver, this quarter will contain a reverse emblematic of Blue Ridge Parkway found in the state of North Carolina. The obverse will include John Flanagan’s portrait of George Washington found on the obverse of all of the America the Beautiful Quarters.
Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge Quarter
Located in Delaware, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge will be showcased on the reverse of this precious metal quarter. George Washington will be seen on the obverse as is standard for all quarter dollars from the United States.
Saratoga National Historical Park Quarter
George Washington’s portrait found on the obverse of the 90% silver quarter will be joined on the reverse by a design emblematic of Saratoga National Historical Park of New York on the reverse.
Kennedy Half Dollar
John F. Kennedy’s portrait, by Gilroy Roberts, will be seen on the obverse of the silver half dollar. The reverse was designed by Frank Gasparro to show an image of the Seal of the President of the United States.
Roosevelt Dime
Franklin D. Roosevelt’s portrait by John R. Sinnock is shown on the obverse of this precious metal dime. An olive branch, torch and oak branch are seen on the reverse, also designed by the same person as the obverse, John R. Sinnock.
Lincoln Cent
Victor D. Brenner’s portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, is seen on the obverse of the Lincoln Cent, as it has been since 1909. The reverse shows a Union Shield design by Lyndall Bass which first appeared in 2010.
Jefferson Nickel
Jamie Franki designed the portrait of Thomas Jefferson seen on the obverse of the nickel. The reverse shows Monticello, Jefferson’s home, as designed by Felix Schlag.
Native American $1 Coin
The famous Shoshone woman Sacagawea is featured on the obverse of the Native American $1 coin series and was designed by Glenna Goodacre. The reverse will continue a series dedicated to the important contributions of Native Americans to the history of the United States.
Harry S. Truman Presidential $1 Coin
A portrait of the 33rd President of the United States, Harry S. Truman, will be shown on the obverse of this coin. It will be joined on the reverse by the standard image of the Statue of Liberty by Don Everhart seen on the reverse of all of the Presidential series.
Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential $1 Coin
Everhart’s Statue of Liberty image on the reverse will be joined by a portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse. Eisenhower was the 34th President.
John F. Kennedy Presidential $1 Coin
John F. Kennedy will be featured on the obverse of this coin making it the second coin in this Silver Proof Set to honor the 35th President of the United States. The reverse will showcase Don Everhart’s Statue of Liberty design.
Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential $1 Coin
Appearing as the last strike for the year in the Presidential $1 Coin series will be this Lyndon B. Johnson Coin complete with a portrait of Johnson on the obverse. It will be joined on the reverse by the Statue of Liberty as designed by Don Everhart.
