2015 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set

The 2015 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set™ contains five 90% silver coins strikes representing the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

These five coins are the 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters® which are issued typically by the Mint for circulation. However, for the sake of this Silver Proof Set, the US Mint produced each strike in proof quality from 90% silver. The five coins included in the Silver Proof Set represent:

  • Homestead National Monument of America of Nebraska
  • Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana
  • Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina
  • Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge of Delaware
  • Saratoga National Historical Park of New York

Collectors typically obtain this Silver Proof Set for its numismatic interest and value, but can always know that each will also have an intrinsic melt value equal to the 0.904 ounces of silver found in the coins.

All of the America the Beautiful Quarters contain the same obverse portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. This portrait was originally designed by John Flanagan and first used on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar. It has been used in one fashion or another on the obverse of the quarter ever since.

The reverse of the strikes contain designs emblematic of the selected site of national interest. One site was chosen from each state, the District of Columbia and the five US Territories, for a total of fifty-six locations to be honored. The strikes in the program are released at a rate of five per year until 2021 when the last quarter is scheduled.

The 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set mark the twenty-sixth through the thirtieth for the America the Beautiful series. Each coin in this set is struck from 90% silver to proof quality at the US Mint’s facility in San Francisco with brief information about each provided below:

2015-S Homestead Quarter

Homestead National Monument of America is found in the state of Nebraska and will be honored on the reverse of this quarter. The monument was originally established on March 19, 1936 and commemorates the passage of the Homestead Act of 1862 and those individuals who participated in the program aimed at giving free land to those who lived on the land and made improvements to it.

The monument sits at the location of Daniel Freeman’s original homestead. Freeman is credited with filing the first homestead claim under the Act.

2015-S Kisatchie Quarter

This quarter honors Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana. Kisatchie is the only national forest in the state and is composed of 604,000 acres.

Kisatchie was designated in the 1930’s and today offers a variety of recreational activities to the public in addition to offering protection to the flora and fauna of the region.

2015-S Blue Ridge Quarter

Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina is honored on the reverse of this strike with a design emblematic of the location. The Parkway runs for 469 miles along the ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains and actually extends up into Virginia.

The parkway was established on June 30, 1936 and is the most visited unit in the National Park System.

2015-S Bombay Hook Quarter

The reverse of this strike honors Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge located in the state of Delaware. The refuge was originally established on March 16, 1937 to preserve and protect the area as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds as they flew along the Atlantic flyway.

The refuge consists of 15,978 acre and also includes the historic Allee House which is a pre-Revolutionary War farmhouse.

2015-S Saratoga Quarter

The last strike in the series for 2015 honors Saratoga National Historical Park of New York on its reverse. Saratoga was established on June 1, 1938 after having been a New York state historic preserve since 1927.

Preserved at the site is the location of the American Revolutionary War Battle of Saratoga which is seen as the first significant victory of American forces over the British during the war.
