The 2010 United States Mint Silver Proof Set™ marked one of two annual coin sets released by the US Mint that year to contain strikes composed of 90% silver. The set included a total of fourteen coins, seven of which were struck from the precious metal.
These sets were first released from the US Mint on Thursday, August 26, 2010. Upon their release, each initially sold for $56.95, plus the Mint’s standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order. While relatively pricey for an annual set, it is important to remember that half of the coins included in it were struck from silver.
Those seven precious metal coins included the five 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters, the Roosevelt Dime and the Kennedy Half Dollar. Together, the seven coins comprised approximately 1.338 ounces of silver. Based on the London Fix for silver that day, the set had an intrinsic melt value of about $25.57 when first released.
The 2010 Silver Proof Set was packaged in three separate lenses. This included one lens containing the five America the Beautiful Quarters, one lens containing the four Presidential Dollars and one lens containing the remaining versions of the circulating coins released that year including the Lincoln Cent, the Jefferson Nickel, the Roosevelt Dime, the Kennedy Half Dollar and the Native American Dollar Coin.
