Celebrating the 1992 Olympic Games, the United States Mint released the 1992 XXV Olympiad Commemorative Silver Dollars. It marked both the Summer Olympic Games which were held in Barcelona, Spain and the Winter Olympic Games which were split between Albertville and Savoie, France.
The opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics was held on July 25, 1992 with paralympic archer Antonio Rebollo shooting an arrow lit by the Olympic Torch over the Olympic Flame Cauldron causing the natural gas flowing from it to light. 9,356 athletes participated in 286 events in 32 sports.
Opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics were held on February 8, 1992 with the closing ceremonies held on February 23rd. In total, 1801 athletes participated in 57 different events in 7 different sports.
Of interest, the 1992 Olympic Games marked the last time in which both the Summer and Winter games were held in the same year. Following 1992, the games were held on separate years.
