The 2019 War in the Pacific Silver Bullion Coins will be issued by the US Mint as the third of five 2019 strikes in its America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program. Coins in the series are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver and feature reverse designs emblematic of selected sites of national interest – in this case the War in the Pacific National Historical Park found in the United States territory of Guam.
These coins actually feature designs taken from the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program®. In this case it is the same designs used on the War in the Pacific Park Quarter. The similar designs are required by law as Congress created the bullion coins as large investment grade versions of the quarter dollars.
Both the silver bullion coins and the quarter dollars are also released on similar schedules with five appearing per year since their inaugural strikes of 2010. Both are also scheduled to end in 2021 when the final of fifty-six strikes per program will be issued.
Each of these bullion coins are produced by the US Mint for investors as an option to add small amounts of precious metals to their portfolios. However, collectors are also likely to be interested in the strikes so the US Mint will also produce a War in the Pacific Silver Uncirculated Coin solely for numismatic purposes.
2019 War in the Pacific Silver Coin Values
The 2019 War in the Pacific Silver Bullion Coins will only have a face value of twenty-five cents like the quarter dollars they are struck to resemble. However, that face value should be the lowest of three values associated with the strikes.
Since each coins is struck from five ounces of silver, they will also have a melt value approximately equal to what that precious metal would trade for on the open market. Thus, if it is trading for $30 an ounce, these coins would have a melt value of about $150 – five ounces times $30 an ounce equals $150.
Finally, as previously mentioned, collectors may be interested in obtaining the coins which would give them a numismatic value. This numismatic value typically carries a premium above the melt value and will go up based on the condition and rarity of the strike.
The Mint Prices, Values & Sales Figures Page will offer current sales and melt value information once the coins have been issued by the US Mint.
War in the Pacific Silver Bullion Coin Information
Each 2019 War in the Pacific Silver Bullion Coin will have an obverse portrait of George Washington just like the quarter dollars they are struck to resemble. The portrait was created by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and has appeared in one form or another on the quarters ever since making it one of the most recognizable portraits on American coinage.
The reverse of the strike will contain a design emblematic of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park located in the United States territory of Guam. A final design will be selected by the Treasury of the Secretary in late 2018 after several design candidates have been offered to the public for review and comment earlier that year.
