The 2014 Shenandoah Silver Uncirculated Coins will honor Shenandoah National Park of Virginia with a reverse design emblematic of the location. This silver uncirculated coin will be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches as part of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program.
Coin in this series are struck as the collector versions of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program authorized by Congress as part of Public Law 110-456 (America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008). However, these silver uncirculated coins were not directly authorized by that same legislation and are instead struck through the authority granted the Treasury Secretary in 31 U.S.C. §5111(a) (3) to produce and market strikes of numismatic interest.
Both the bullion and the uncirculated coins will feature similar designs with the main noticeable differences between the two being the inclusion of a mintmark on the uncirculated coin. Also, as the name of the coin indicates, these uncirculated coin will feature an uncirculated finish which is normally more detailed than the bullion strike will be.
2014 Shenandoah Silver Uncirculated Coin Values
The face value of the 2014 Shenandoah Silver Uncirculated Coin will only be twenty-five cents. That face value is the same as the associated Shenandoah National Park Quarter from which this strike takes its designs from.
These coins will be, in reality, worth much more, however. As each uncirculated coin is struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver, they will feature a melt value approximately equal to that amount of the precious metal on the open market.
Finally, since the US Mint strikes these coins for collectors to a limited mintage, the coin’s will likely also have a numismatic value. That is the amount a collector would be willing to pay to obtain the strikes with this amount typically increasing based on the perceived rarity and condition of the coin.
Once issued, the Coin Values Page will show the current sales information for the Shenandoah Coins along with an approximate melt value based on the recent silver market.
Shenandoah Silver Uncirculated Coin Information
Each Shenandoah Silver Uncirculated Coin will contain a portrait of the first President of the United States, George Washington, on the obverse. This portrait was designed by John Flanagan and initially used on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.
Depicted on the reverse will be a design honoring Shenandoah National Park of Virginia. Design candidates for the strike should be released early in 2013 with a final design unveiled by the US Mint later that year.
