The 2019 Lowell Silver Uncirculated Coins will be the first 2019 release of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program. Each of these uncirculated coins will be composed of five ounces of .999 fine silver with a diameter of three inches and feature a reverse emblematic of Lowell National Historical Park found in the state of Massachusetts.
This series of silver uncirculated coins was created by the US Mint as the numismatic versions of its America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ which themselves were authorized by Congress as large investment grade versions of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. Both these uncirculated coins and the bullion strikes feature similar specifications including being struck from five ounces of precious metal.
Both also feature designs originally created for the Lowell America the Beautiful Quarter struck as part of the quarters program. Their differences lie in their finish, a mintmark and their intended markets.
These uncirculated coins are intended for collectors and include a mintmark indicating they were struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. The bullion strikes contain no mintmark and are intended for investors.
2019 Lowell Silver Uncirculated Coin Values
The 2019 Lowell Silver Uncirculated Coins only have a face value of twenty-five cents since they are struck to resemble the associated quarter dollar. However, that face value should be the least of three values tied to the strike.
Each one of these uncirculated coins is struck from five ounces of silver giving it an intrinsic melt value approximately equal to what that amount of the precious metal is currently trading for. Thus, if it is going for $25 an ounce, these strikes will have a melt value of about $125 – five ounces times $25 an ounce equals $125.
Finally, since these coins are struck for collectors, there will be a numismatic value linked to them. This value generally carries a significant premium over the melt value and increases based on the condition and rarity of the strike.
When these coins have been issued by the Mint, the Mint Prices, Values & Sales Figures will offer current sales information on the strikes along with recent melt value data.
Lowell Silver Uncirculated Coin Information
Struck to resemble the Lowell Quarter, the obverse of this 2019 Lowell Silver Uncirculated Coin will also showcase a portrait of George Washington like those quarter dollars. John Flanagan originally designed this image of the first President of the United States for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.
The reverse of the strike will contain a design emblematic of Lowell National Historical Park of Massachusetts. Several design candidates for the reverse should be released by the US Mint early in 2018 before a final design is unveiled later that year.
