The 2014 Great Smoky Mountains Silver Uncirculated Coins will mark the first of five 2014 releases of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program. These silver uncirculated coins are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches and feature reverse designs emblematic of selected sites of national interest from around the United States and its territories. This specific strike honors Great Smoky Mountains National Park of Tennessee.
The United States Mint will produce these silver uncirculated coins as the collector versions of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program. Both series of strikes feature similar specifications with three major exceptions owing to their intended markets. First, the bullion coins have a bullion finish whereas the Mint strikes these collector grade coins with an uncirculated finish which normally results in a much higher detail Second, a ‘P’ mintmark is struck on the uncirculated coins indicating they were struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. The bullion coins contain no mintmark.
Finally, mintages on these coins will likely be extremely different with the possibility of many more Great Smoky Mountain Bullion Coins than uncirculated issues.
2014 Great Smoky Mountains Silver Uncirculated Coin Values
Each Great Smoky Mountains Silver Uncirculated Coin will only feature a face value of twenty-five cents. That is because it is based on the Great Smoky Mountains Quarter produced by the US Mint for the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
However, in reality, the coin will be worth much more then that. As each is struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver, the coin will a melt value approximately equal to that amount of the precious metal on the silver market.
Finally, some collectors may be interested in obtaining the coin based on its rarity and a specific coin’s condition. If a collector is interested in purchasing the strike, it will then also have a numismatic value associated with it.
Up-to-date sales information for the coins, when available, may be found on the Coin Values Page which will also show current melt values based on recent market prices.
