The 2014 Great Smoky Mountains Silver Bullion Coins will be the first of five 2014-dated strikes in the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin® Program. This specific strike honors Great Smoky Mountains National Park of Tennessee and will be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver like the other coins of the series.
The series itself debuted in 2010 and will contain a total of fifty-six strikes when it is completed in 2021. One strike will be representative of a location from each state as well as the District of Columbia and the five US territories and are produced for investors as a bullion product from the Mint.
As such, the coins will be sold through the Mint’s authorized purchasers eventually being offered to the public for a small premium above the current spot price of the five ounces of silver found in each piece. This is the standard procedure used by the mint for all of its bullion products.
Collectors interested in the Great Smoky Mountains Silver Bullion Coins may also be interested in the Great Smoky Mountains Uncirculated Coins which are struck by the Mint to similar specifications as these bullion coins but are produced solely for collectors.
2014 Great Smoky Mountains Silver Coin Values
Each Great Smoky Mountains Silver Bullion Coin will have three values associated with it – a face value, a melt value and a numismatic value.
The lowest of these values will likely be its face value. That is because each will only feature a legal tender value of twenty-five cents which is based on the circulating quarter dollars from which these coins take their design.
Undoubtedly worth much more than that will be the coin’s melt value since each of these are struck from five ounces of silver. As such, each should always at least be worth approximately that amount of the precious metal based on current market conditions.
Finally, some collectors may be interested in the coin which will give them a numismatic value. The likelihood of collector interest will increase if the coin is thought to be somewhat rare or if the specific coin in question could be graded at near "mint state."
Sales information and melt values can be found on the Coin Values Page.
Great Smoky Mountains Silver Bullion Coin Information
Each America the Beautiful related coin will contain the same obverse portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. This portrait was originally designed by John Flanagan and first appeared on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar.
Shown on the obverse of the Great Smoky Mountains Silver Bullion Coin will be a design emblematic of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The final design should be unveiled by the Mint sometime late in 2013.
