Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coins

The 2015 Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coins will mark the twenty-eighth strike in the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin Program. Shown on the reverse of the coin will be a design emblematic of Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina with each coin struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver like other strikes in the series.

This Blue Ridge Uncirculated Coin will also mark the third of five to appear in the series in 2015 and will contain designs similar to that of the Blue Ridge Parkway Quarter struck as part of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. So much so that the uncirculated coin will have an obverse portrait of George Washington, just like the quarters , and will only have a face value of twenty-five cents like those circulating coins.

When it comes to specifications, however, these uncirculated coins will be more similar to that of the Blue Ridge Silver Bullion Coin. The bullion strikes also contain similar designs but are produced from five ounces of precious metal like the uncirculated strikes. The main difference between the two will be their intended markets with the bullion strikes intended for investors and the uncirculateds for collectors.

Also, a mintmark will be included on the uncirculated versions indicating they were struck at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. This ‘P’ mintmark will not be present on the bullion versions even though they will also be struck in Philadelphia.

2015 Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coin Values

The 2015 Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coins only feature a face value of twenty-five cents like the quarters they are associated with. In reality, however, this face value is miniscule compared to the coin’s melt and numismatic values.

Since each of these are struck from five ounces of precious metal, they will have an intrinsic melt value approximately equal to what that amount of the precious metal is currently trading for. Trumping that should be the strikes numismatic value which is the amount a collector would be willing to pay to obtain the strike.

This numismatic value generally increases if the coin is perceived to be rare and/or of the condition of the strike is nearly "mint state." A coin meeting both of those conditions is typically worth much more to collectors than one that does not.

Once released by the US Mint, the sales figures and melt values of the uncirculated strikes will be available on the Coin Values Page.

Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coin Information

A portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, is featured on the obverse of all of the America the Beautiful related strikes including this 2015 Blue Ridge Silver Uncirculated Coin. The portrait was originally created by John Flanagan and initially used on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar. It has graced the quarters ever since.

The reverse will contain a design showcasing a portion of Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina. A final design for the strike should be unveiled by the Mint late in 2015. Design candidates, however, should be offered for review much earlier that year.
